BIO
Anika De Souza is a London-based abstract mixed media artist working with acrylic, graphite, oil stick, spray paint, crayon, and pastel. Originally from Germany, she studied Graphic Design and spent over a decade in the advertising industry before shifting her creative focus to photography, calligraphy, and painting.
Rooted in calligraphic traditions, Anika’s work explores the tension between control and spontaneity. Her process mirrors the rhythm of handwriting—delicate graphite lines contrast with bold brushstrokes, and moments of silence on the canvas invite reflection. As written forms dissolve into abstraction, letters stretch, blur, and fragment, transforming language into a purely visual experience.
Her compositions explore the balance between presence and absence, form and void—inviting the viewer to engage with gesture, texture, and space on a visceral level.
Anika has exhibited at The Other Art Fair, Kingston Open Artist Studio, and The Circle Gallery in Sunninghill. Her work has also been featured in Times and Leisure. She lives and works in Kingston Upon Thames.
